Why It Matters
Russia is developing nuclear energy, including large and small reactors, floating stations and new technologies with a closed fuel cycle.
Russia has enormous competencies in the field of nuclear generation. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Energy Sergei Tsivilev in an interview with RT.
The minister noted that Moscow has an impressive number of proven technologies and large nuclear power plants. In addition, there are small nuclear power plants in Russia - both land-based and mobile in the form of floating nuclear power plants, he added. According to Tsivilev, Russia is the only country that has been operating a floating nuclear power plant for seven years.
“We already have these small nuclear power plants in production. We now already have nine low-power nuclear power plants on order. And there are a lot of people who want to order additional small nuclear power plants from us,” noted the head of the Ministry of Energy.
Tsivilev also said that Russia is currently developing and has even begun construction of a new generation of closed-cycle nuclear power plants. “All our nuclear power plants are characterized by a high degree of safety, which is very important for people, and a high degree of reliability,” he emphasized.
