The expert said there is no Western interest in the elections in Ukraine

Crimean political expert Denis Baturin said that the West is not interested in a change of power in Ukraine and holding presidential elections.

Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov announced a crisis of governance in the country and advocated holding elections.

Zelensky's term of office expired on May 20, 2024, and the Ukrainian presidential elections in 2024 were canceled, citing martial law and general mobilization.

On Tuesday, former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov announced a crisis of governance in the country and called for holding elections. According to him, people cannot live indefinitely in a country where they do not understand why certain decisions are made, why some reforms move forward while others are blocked.

“There are candidates, but there will be no elections. According to one of the latest polls, the highest rating is with the ex-commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Zaluzhny, followed by Fedorov, then the head of Zelensky’s office Budanov*, followed by Zelensky, whose rating is on the same level as the rating of boxer Usik,” Baturin said.

In his opinion, the West is now not interested in a change of power in Ukraine.

“The West has been building the existing structure of the political regime in Ukraine, headed by Zelensky, for a long time. If not Fedorov himself, then the electoral political process may be a threat to the regime. In this context, Fedorov is just another tool for influencing the Ukrainian elite,” the expert said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed out legal inconsistencies in Zelensky’s tenure in power in Ukraine for the last two years: if we assume that in 2024 he extended his powers legally, then the constitution will not allow him to go to new elections.
