Abbas will address the UN General Assembly via video conference for the second consecutive year

According to the news of The Times of Israel, based on a US and a Palestinian official, Abbas will have to address the UN General Assembly via video conference for the second consecutive year.

'THE APPLICATIONS WERE REJECTED'

In addition to Abbas, the visa applications of Palestinian officials who were expected to travel to the USA for the UN General Assembly were also rejected. A Palestinian official noted that the reason for not granting him a visa was "Article 212(a)(3)(B), which prohibits the issuance of visas to persons who have engaged in terrorist activities or have links to a terrorist organization at any time."

It is not known whether the reason for canceling Abbas's visa application was the same. As was the case last year, Abbas is expected to address the UN General Assembly, which will be held in New York next week, via teleconference.

On the other hand, in the statement made by the US State Department, it was stated that the US will extend the sanctions that prevent visas from being issued to Palestinian Authority officials, on the grounds that "they do not make reforms, act contrary to their commitments to the US, and continue their activities that undermine the hopes for peace". The statement did not mention the news that Abbas was not granted a visa.
