US working on post-war Middle East strategy plan with Iran

Reports in the US press claimed that US President Donald Trump's administration was in the process of preparing a draft plan regarding the strategy to be implemented towards the Middle East after the end of the war with Iran. In the news published by the news website Axios, based on two US officials and two sources with knowledge of the subject, it was claimed that the Trump administration focused on containing Iran and normalizing Israel's relations with its neighbors in the said plan.

It was stated that the plan, which was emphasized that it was still in the early stages of the draft, was aimed to guide the US's Middle East policy in the remaining two years of Trump's term. It was claimed that the parliamentary elections to be held in Israel on October 27 and the midterm elections expected to be held in the USA in November were also important during the preparation of the plan.

US officials stated that the work on the strategy in question was carried out by senior political staff from the Trump administration and at the level of various institutions. Sources stated that Trump held two meetings with his senior advisors in recent weeks to discuss the plan and various ideas were brought to the agenda.

Axios claimed that Trump said in private conversations that he was working on "something much bigger" in the Middle East after the war with Iran. The White House did not comment on the allegations.

Regional harmony, Gaza peace plan and the Abraham Accords

Sources stated that the strategy in question was evaluated to be based on three basic elements. It was noted that one of these was to establish a regional harmony among US allies in the region, under the guarantorship of Washington, in order to limit Iran's influence.

It was stated that another element is securing the next phase of the Gaza plan led by Trump, reaching a security agreement between Israel and Syria and implementing the agreement between Israel and Lebanon. Thus, it was claimed that a joint effort was planned to end the regional crisis that emerged after Israel launched its attacks on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023.

It was claimed that the third element was the expansion of the Abraham Accords and the reaching of a normalization agreement between Saudi Arabia and Israel.

The news stated that the Trump administration hopes that the new Israeli government that will be established after the elections to be held on October 27 will be willing and able to cooperate with the United States within the scope of the post-war strategy.

According to Axios, some US officials stated that Trump will make efforts to implement this strategy regardless of the election results in Israel. It was claimed that the plan was aimed to be implemented even if the elections resulted in a political deadlock.

A source with knowledge of the process stated that it will take a few more weeks to prepare the draft of the strategy and said, "They are working on it, but it is not completed yet. The idea is to link many elements in the region with each other and reveal how to create a regional harmony after the war. However, it is not yet clear whether all US allies in the region will support this plan."
