Strait of Hormuz and Sanctions Tension Between the USA and Iran

During the negotiations between Iran and Oman, a draft emerged that included details such as ensuring that entry and exit to the Strait of Hormuz would be under Iranian control and that ships passing through would be charged a fee of 5 percent of the cargo they carry, and such an agreement drew reaction on the grounds that it would mean Iranian domination over Hormuz.

The US administration, on the other hand, is signaling that it will resort to economic power instead of firepower in a possible conflict. In his statement to Fox News, US President Donald Trump stated that they would impose "much more severe" economic sanctions on Iran in the coming days and threatened that Hormuz "will soon become US territory." In his statement the other day, US Vice President J.D. Vance said that keeping oil and gas prices low is the first goal, and preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons is the second goal.

While US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that they could continue the naval blockade against Iran "indefinitely" by sending rotating ships to the region, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that sanctions against Iran will be announced next week.
