Farewell to Klaus-Michael Kühne in Hamburg

Friends and companions said goodbye to the late entrepreneur Klaus-Michael Kühne in Hamburg. Hamburg Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) and other members of the Senate took part in the funeral service in the main church of St. Michaelis. Football icon Günter Netzer and entrepreneur Ian Karan were also present.

Kühne died on August 24th in Switzerland at the age of 89. The Hamburg-born entrepreneur had lived in Schindellegi on the banks of Lake Zurich since 1969. But he always remained connected to his hometown. He took over the logistics company Kühne+Nagel from his father and turned it into a global corporation.

Commitment to his hometown

“With Klaus-Michael Kühne, Hamburg is losing a generous donor, one of its most successful entrepreneurial personalities and a committed partner for projects that are in the city’s particular interest,” said Tschentscher, according to the speech manuscript.

Kühne donated millions for the Elbphilharmonie and was a donor for the construction of a new opera house in Hafencity. His commitment to the Bundesliga soccer team HSV also received a lot of public attention.
