President Lee Jae-myung approves the appointment of Jin-guk Lee as a member of the Board of Audit and Inspection

The Board of Audit and Inspection announced on the 26th that President Lee Jae-myung approved the appointment of Lee Jin-guk (59), an audit committee member (Vice Minister level) of the Board of Audit and Inspection.

Earlier on this day, Chairman Kim Ho-cheol of the Board of Audit and Inspection recommended the appointment of Lee Jin-guk, a former Blue House judicial system secretary and professor at Ajou University Law School, as a new audit committee member.

Regarding the background of the recommendation, the Board of Audit and Inspection explained, "Through various public sector activities, I contributed to the development of national judicial administration with a focus on procedural legitimacy and human rights protection," and "I designed several judicial system reform plans while working as the judicial system secretary."

He added, “Based on our firm belief in human rights protection and expertise and diverse experience in the criminal field, we are expected to play an important role in creating a human rights-friendly audit environment and enhancing the objectivity of audit results.”

Professor Lee is from Goseong, Gyeongsangnam-do, graduated from Dong-A University's Department of Law in 1994, worked as a lecturer and researcher, and was hired as a professor at Ajou University's College of Law in 2007. He served as head of the Planning and Coordination Division of the Korea Institute of Criminology, president of the Korean Society of Criminal Law, member of the Constitutional Amendment Advisory Group of the National Assembly, and member of the nomination management committee of the Democratic Party of Korea.

After the launch of the Lee Jae-myung administration, he served as the judicial system secretary in the Presidential Secretariat, but left the Blue House in February after expressing his gratitude.

The judicial system secretary is in charge of overall judicial system design, including prosecution reform.

Accordingly, there was speculation that Professor Lee expressed his resignation due to differences of opinion on the prosecution reform issue at the time, but the Blue House said, "It is not related to prosecution reform."

The Audit Committee, the highest decision-making body of the Board of Audit and Inspection, operates as a seven-member system, including the Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman and six audit committee members.

Until now, it had been comprised of audit committee members Kim Young-shin, Yoo Byeong-ho, and Baek Jae-myeong, who were appointed by former President Yoon Seok-yeol, and Audit Board Chairman Kim, Choi Seung-pil, and Lim Seon-sook, who were appointed by President Lee. Audit committee member Lee Jin-guk will join this day.
