Bus accident leaves 7 dead and 13 injured in Bahia; police officer and child are among the victims

An accident with a bus on BR-122, in Bahia, left at least 7 dead and 13 injured on Friday night (25).

The Real Maia company vehicle was traveling from Fortaleza to Palmas and overturned. Rescue teams remain at the scene this Saturday morning (26).

One of the victims is military police officer Luca José Jesus Santana, who was traveling in uniform. The causes of the accident are still to be determined.

At least seven people died and 13 were injured in an accident involving a bus on the BR-122, near Iraquara, a city in the Chapada Diamantina region, in Bahia, on Friday night (25). Two other people, company drivers, were not injured.

The injured people received first aid on site and were taken to health units in the region: 12 victims to the Seabra Regional Hospital, and one to the Américo Chagas Municipal Hospital, in Iraquara.

Rescue teams removed three bodies from the vehicle's wreckage. Four other bodies were located after the bus collapsed and they were two men, a woman and a child. Their ages have not yet been released, as has information about the other victims.

The accident happened around 11pm approximately 15km from Iraquara.

According to TV Bahia, the bus departed from Fortaleza, in Ceará, and was destined for Palmas, in the state of Tocantins. The vehicle is part of the Real Maia company fleet and fell onto the track.

The Military Police and Fire Department were called and teams were still at the scene of the incident on Saturday morning (26).

One of the victims was identified as Lucas José Jesus Santana, a Military Police soldier assigned to the 28th CIPM/Ibotirama. He was hitchhiking and was in uniform at the time of the accident.

The cause of the accident has not yet been determined. The circumstances are still to be determined.
