Adnan Menderes, Fatin Rüştü Zorlu and Hasan Polatkan were commemorated on their 65th death anniversary

Speaking at the "65th Death Anniversary Commemoration Program of Adnan Menderes, Fatin Rüştü Zorlu and Hasan Polatkan" held at the Adnan Menderes Mausoleum in Zeytinburnu, AK Party Deputy Chairman and Head of Information and Communication Technologies Dr. Ömer İleri said that he remembered with mercy those who were at the forefront of the country's development struggle despite the pain of the transition to multi-party life and who paid a heavy price during the May 27 coup.

Explaining that these elders truly loved the country, İleri said, "They truly embraced this nation and worked sincerely for this country. We, as families, witnessed it directly. In the homes of these elders, the issues of the country were always discussed, not positions, positions, achievements or even achievements. The excitement of the development of the country was felt and we witnessed that these people were honest, sincere, diligent and true patriots." he said.

Forward said, "For a fair person, there is not the slightest intellectual element that would legitimize the May 27 treason. An elected government was overthrown by force of arms, with a fiction built on lies, months before the election." he said.

Noting that judges appointed by the coup plotters tried to convict many MPs for the speeches they made at the podium or the votes they cast, contrary to the Constitution and many universal law principles, İleri read the statements in the judgment letter written for his late grandfather Tevfik İleri.

Forward said, "May God bless my grandfather for this noble stance. During the May 27 period, we see very problematic behavior not only in terms of law, politics or democracy, but also in terms of humanity." he said.

Stating that what happened on the night of July 15 shows that one of the important common features of coups is that those involved in the coup are often people who have no share in humanity, İleri said, "Thankfully, as of the point we have reached, our nation, which resisted the treacherous coup attempt of July 15 under the leadership of our President, has now left the coups on the dusty shelves of history. Yes, the coup process is over, but let's not forget that coups are essentially the final results of a deviated mentality and culture." he said.

Forward said, "We must treat coups as the visible part of the iceberg, and we must also fight the invisible part of this iceberg, the reflexes that pave the way for coups, and the habits that corrupt our culture of democracy." he said.

Indicating that those who cannot distance themselves from the coup and coup culture within the wide range of political views will not find a response in this nation, İleri said:

"I think that the accounting of the May 27 process should continue not only with the resulting coup dimension, but also with the wrong understanding of the opposition that forced the process to this point. Keeping a distance from the coup and being anti-coup requires condemning the coup process clearly and in a holistic way, including the road leading to the coup. 'The executions were wrong, but there were some justifications for the coup.' Such statements mean not taking a clear stance. "Those who have a quarrel with the coup can never allow the institutions of this country to be eroded in the name of opposition."

"NAMIK GEDİK WILL BE BURIED NEXT TO HIS FRIENDS"

AK Party Deputy Chairman and Head of Relations with Turkish States Kürşad Zorlu also said that the will of the nation was tried to be executed with the coup, but it could not be achieved, and the Turkish nation protected democracy in the process.

Noting that the intervening years have shown more clearly what May 27 cost Türkiye, Zorlu said, "The coups did not only target the governments. They upset the scales of law, tried to silence the will of the nation, shook the trust between the state and the nation, and stole Türkiye's time, energy, and future. Therefore, remembering May 27 is history's biggest warning to us and our generations to prevent the same mistake from being repeated again." he said.

Zorlu reminded that they are on the verge of healing one of the wounds left by May 27, and that the grave of the late Minister of Internal Affairs İsmail Namık Gedik will be transferred to the mausoleum.

Stating that the process was initiated with the will and instruction of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Zorlu said: "This is not just a grave transfer, this step is the completion of an unfinished page of history by the state after 66 years. Namık Gedik undertook important duties in the political life of our country as an Aydın deputy and Minister of Internal Affairs during the Democratic Party period. He was forcibly taken from his home on the day of the military coup, taken to the Military Academy and died on May 29, 1960, after the heavy treatment he was subjected to there. 66 years have passed and some events remain behind in the calendar, but they continue to maintain their place in the nation's memory. Now Namık Gedik will be buried next to his friends.

"THE ERA OF COUPS HAS ENDED WITH THE COURAGE OF OUR PRESIDENT AND THE FORESIGHT OF OUR NATION"

Istanbul Governor Davut Gül also said that he expressed his condolences to the families and may God have mercy on those who lost their lives in all coups, especially the martyrs of democracy. Gül stated that the coup process in Türkiye, which started on May 27, has turned into a sociology that expects a coup every 10 years, and that the regret and despair experienced by the Anatolian people after May 27 have been described with tears in every corner of Anatolia for years.

Noting that these regrets accumulated in the 70s, 80s, and February 28, and reached July 15, and that the period of coups was no longer on the country's agenda on July 15, Gül said, "With the courage and acumen of our President and the foresight of our nation, the period of coups ended, and on this occasion, Turkey Century is now Türkiye, leaving the coups behind, accepting democracy as the essential element and not recognizing a will above the will of the nation." A HISTORICAL DECISION WAS MADE

Namık Gedik, the grandson of the late Minister of Internal Affairs İsmail Namık Gedik, is Dr. who was murdered at the Military Academy. He said that a historical decision was made to transfer Namık Gedik's grave to the Mausoleum, where the bodies of his co-defendants Menderes, Zorlu and Polatkan are located.

Stating that this decision has a deep meaning for their families and is also a valuable example of loyalty in terms of the collective memory of the history of Turkish democracy, Gedik said, "On behalf of our family, I would like to express my gratitude to our President for his appreciation for the national will, our history of democracy and the cherished memories of the figures who served our state." he said.

Stating that he believes that the decision will have a meaningful and permanent place in the nation's memory of democracy and the deep-rooted tradition of loyalty of the state, Gedik said, "I commemorate the late Doctor Namık Gedik, who devoted his life to the services of the state and the nation, and his colleagues, our Prime Minister Adnan Menderes, our Minister of Foreign Affairs Fatin Rüştü Zorlu and our Minister of Finance Hasan Polatkan, with mercy, gratitude and respect." he said.

"OUR DEMOCRACY MARTYRS AND THEIR SERVICES ARE NOT FORGOTTEN AND WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN"

Ümran Menderes, daughter-in-law of Adnan Menderes, said that today they commemorate the martyrs of democracy with mercy, gratitude, longing and prayers on the 65th anniversary of their passing.

Menderes stated that the will of the nation was ignored on May 27, 1960, May 27 was celebrated as a holiday for 17 years, and there was a fake court in Yassıada.

Stating that Menderes, Zorlu and Polatkan were taken away from life with the death sentence given against them, Menderes said, "The tortures inflicted on very well-educated Democratic Party ministers and deputies are incomprehensible. Executions are Türkiye's great shame. They have taken their place as a black stain in our political history." he said.

Pointing out that coups have always prevented Türkiye's development and growth, Menderes said, "Our martyrs of democracy and their services have not been forgotten, and will never be forgotten." he said.

Following a moment of silence, the Quran was recited and prayers were made for Menderes and his companions.

Minister of Internal Affairs Mustafa Çiftçi also made a speech in the program. After the ceremony, Minister Çiftçi and his entourage first visited the graves of Adnan Menderes and his family, then the mausoleum of the 8th President Turgut Özal, laid carnations and prayed.
