MİT President İbrahim Kalın's Pakistan Contacts

As part of his visit to the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad, Director of the National Intelligence Organization (MİT) İbrahim Kalın met with the Chief of General Staff of Pakistan, Marshal Asım Münir, and the Head of the Pakistan Intelligence Service (ISI), Asım Malik.

According to information obtained from security sources, Kalın visited Pakistan's capital Islamabad after his visit to Afghanistan.

MİT President Kalın met with Münir and Malik here and was also received by Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Şerif.

During the meetings, the current status of bilateral relations between Türkiye and Pakistan and future cooperation opportunities, as well as regional and global developments, were discussed.

During the talks, where the security balances that emerged in the Middle East after the war between the USA/Israel and Iran, the increasing regional tension, and the political, security and economic repercussions of the war on the countries in the region were evaluated, developments regarding the risk of conflicts spreading to different countries and regions were also discussed.

In this context, the risks posed by the recent tensions and events between Yemen and Saudi Arabia in terms of regional stability were among the topics discussed during the meetings.

During the meetings, attention was drawn to the importance of the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, which created a basis for reconciliation between the parties in the context of re-establishing regional stability, and the role of Turkey and Pakistan in reducing tensions and keeping diplomatic solution channels open was also pointed out.

It was emphasized that Turkey will continue to make every effort to resolve the tension between Afghanistan and Pakistan through dialogue, as in the past.

During the meetings, it was also agreed to further develop the existing high-level cooperation between Turkey and Pakistan in the fields of security and intelligence, and it was underlined that Turkey stands by Pakistan in the fight against terrorism and will continue its support to strengthen its capacity.
