Speaking at the 65th Death Anniversary Commemoration Program of Adnan Menderes, Fatin Rüştü Zorlu and Hasan Polatkan, held at the Adnan Menderes Mausoleum in Zeytinburnu, Minister of Internal Affairs Çiftçi noted that Menderes and his companions Zorlu, Polatkan and Namık Gedik were representatives of the nation's will to live with its faith, sacred values and values, and to have a say in its own future.
Çiftçi reminded that in the 27 May 1960 Coup, the will of the nation was usurped under the shadow of guns, the prime minister and ministers elected by the nation were taken captive, and the law was turned into a tool of the revenge system established by the coup plotters.
“THE COUPISTS ANNOUNCED HIS DEATH AS A SO-CALLED SUICIDE”
Noting that the late Minister of Internal Affairs İsmail Namık Gedik lost his life in the first days of the coup, Çiftçi said, "The coup plotters announced his death as a so-called suicide. However, we do not accept this narrative created under the dark conditions of the coup, and we remember İsmail Namık Gedik with mercy as the oppressed and martyr of the May 27 oppression." he said.
Çiftçi stated that a trial process was carried out in Yassıada that never found a response in the conscience of the nation and said, "Fatin Rüştü Zorlu and Hasan Polatkan walked to immortality on September 16, 1961, and Adnan Menderes walked to immortality on September 17, 1961. They were three statesmen sent to the gallows, but the real showdown was with the will of the nation." he said.
“YOU CANNOT EXECUTE THE MEMORY OF THIS NATION”
Stating that the resounding of the call to prayer in the skies with its original identity and the Anatolian people having a say in the state administration is the strongest sign of the rise of this will, Çiftçi said, "They thought that by eliminating Menderes, Zorlu, Polatkan and Gedik, this will will also disappear. Çiftçi stated that the deep pain in the poem "Zeybeğim", written by Necip Fazıl Kısakürek after the martyrdom of the late Menderes, still continues to shake hearts despite the passing decades, and read some lines from the poem.

Çiftçi said, "On one side, the darkness of the coup, the cruelty and gallows of Yassıada, and on the other side, Menderes, Polatkan, Zorlu, Gedik and İleri, who have lived in the hearts of the nation for 65 years. Time has eroded the rule of the oppressor and enlarged the memory of the oppressed. Because oppression can silence the voice of a person, but it cannot silence the voice of truth." he said.
“THE DARKNESS OF MAY 27 COULD NOT REMEMBER NAMIK GEDİK'S NAME”

Çiftçi said, "I would like to share an important decision with our beloved nation. With the signature of our esteemed President yesterday, it was decided that the body of our late Minister of Internal Affairs İsmail Namık Gedik will be transferred to the area where the Adnan Menderes Mausoleum is located and buried. I would like to express my gratitude to our esteemed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for this great loyalty he showed to the memory of our martyrs." he said.
Noting that he commemorates the martyrs with mercy, gratitude and respect, Çiftçi said, "We will continue to carry their love of nation, sensitivity to sacred things and the trust they left us to future generations." he said.
WHO IS NAMIK GEDİK?
Nanım Gedik, who entered the Parliament as an Aydın Deputy in 1950, served as Minister of Internal Affairs to the Democratic Party governments under the Prime Ministership of Adnan Menderes.
During the 27 May 1960 Coup, he was arrested along with other government members. It was recorded that he died the same day, leaving a note for his family and jumping from the window of the Military Academy where he was detained. It was claimed that his death was made to look like suicide.
