The high-speed rail extension project to Pingtung is currently undergoing a second-stage environmental impact assessment. More than 8 kilometers of elevated roads will be constructed along the line. After it is put into operation, three administrative districts will face greater train noise.

The high-speed rail extension to Pingtung is planned to be converted to the "Kaohsiung case". The route is about 26.2 kilometers long, including about 5.78 kilometers of cut-and-cover tunnel section, about 11.82 kilometers of hidden shield section, 0.2 kilometers of approach section, and about 8.4 kilometers of elevated section.

According to the Railway Bureau's environmental impact statement, most of the project is an underground section and only three administrative districts in Kaohsiung City, including Daliao District, Dashu District, and Pingtung City, are elevated sections. The main source of noise during operation after completion is noise from high-speed rail trains. In the future, noise simulation software approved by the Ministry of Environment will be used. It is estimated that after the planned route is completed and opened to traffic, the amount of traffic noise and vibration that can be felt when the traffic noise along the line is transmitted to each sensitive receptor will be evaluated according to the "Noise Impact Level" Assessment process, and formulate relevant impact mitigation countermeasures as necessary.

In addition, for noise complaints filed by the public, personnel are first sent to understand the source of the noise complained by the public and its impact, and conduct noise measurements on the Chenqing road section to confirm whether it meets the control standards. If the operating traffic noise exceeds the control standards, appropriate soundproofing improvement measures will be adopted for the main noise sources, such as adding soundproof walls, track grinding, etc., to reduce the impact of traffic noise.
