Ahmet Ümit's new novel, Five Days of Rome, brings together social history and mythology

He continues his quest for the salvation of man and humanity, which started with Barefoot Night in 1992, with dozens of works; Master author Ahmet Ümit, who started historical detective fiction with Patasana and showed his determination with Kavim, Ninatta's Bracelet, Bab-ı Mısır, İstanbul Hatırası, Killing the Sultan, and once again takes the readers on a journey of social history, mythology, geography and culture, with his sixteenth novel and twenty-seventh book, Five Days of Rome (Yapı Kredi Publications), is on our cover.

After he started presenting his first detective novels, Ahmet Ümit integrated with the detective novel with everything he wrote, and he broke new ground in our literature with the search for people he added to detective fiction: Social detective fiction.

He was dedicated to illuminating the spiritual, ideological, social and political reasons behind the crimes and murders he investigated with his mythological and historical detective stories. The experiences of Superintendent Nevzat and his team, which he created, always coincided with his tendi's broad view of the world.

"Five Days of Rome is one of my most cold-blooded novels. For example, what happened to my murderer characters consists of the brutal events we have heard about and witnessed for the last fifty years. This brutality continues today. As a writer, instead of suffering from this, I wanted the reader to feel and empathize. That's why I chose not to comfort my readers." says Ümit.

Another feature of the new novel of the master author, who makes references to ancient history, the Anatolian origins of Rome, Zoilos of Aphrodisias, and Mithra in all the murders, is that he makes references to gods, goddesses, kings, sultans, but mostly to epics, novels, music, and movies.

In his novel, Ümit hosts the reader at a historical table full of legends, symphonies, concertos, music, paintings, ruins of civilization, archaeology, symbols, rituals, sculptures, buildings, streets, food and drinks. Of course, he does not neglect literature; It extends from Vergilius to Shakespeare, Dante, Schiller and Jack London.
