Identifying areas where buildings may be damaged... Selected 9 settlement sites requiring urgent on-site investigation
(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Cho Seung-han = Satellite company Nara Space Technology announced on the 19th that it delivered a report analyzing flood-affected areas in Nepal using satellite images and artificial intelligence (AI) to the Nepalese Embassy in Korea and began supporting humanitarian disaster response.
Nara Space used its own AI analysis technology to confirm that the area estimated to be newly covered with water and soil in the Trishuli River basin is approximately 31.28㎢.
In addition, by applying our own AI building detection technology, we identified an area of approximately 52,180㎡ where the building area overlaps with the estimated flood/burial range.
Based on this, nine settlement areas in need of urgent follow-up field research in the Bidur region were selected and proposed as priority consideration.
Kim Min-sik, head of business development at Nara Space, said, “The value of satellite data is not limited to securing images, but converting it into information needed for actual decision-making.” He added, “We will continue to advance satellite data and AI analysis technology to expand services that can be used in various public fields, including disaster response.”
Nirmal Prasad Berterai, Chargé d'Affaires at the Embassy of Nepal in Korea, said, "We are grateful to Naraspace for supporting Nepal's disaster response through the flood damage analysis report. We expect this analysis to help us assess Nepal's disaster damage situation more closely."
