Singaporean National Assembly Speaker Xia Qian Peng, who visited China, met with Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the head of the Chinese Legislative Assembly, and Chinese Vice President Han Han.

According to China's official Xinhua News Agency on the 13th, Chairman Zhao, who is ranked third in China's official ranking, met with Chairman Xia at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing and said, "Both China and Singapore should expand cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital economy, clean energy, and science and technology innovation."

He then emphasized, “We must practice true multilateralism and protect the stable and smooth flow of the multilateral trade system and industrial and supply chains.”

In response, Chairman Xia also said, “Both countries value multilateralism and free trade and are working to protect them.”

He added, "Singapore firmly follows the 'One China' policy. Facing the complex geopolitical situation, Singapore hopes to promote the in-depth development of relations between ASEAN and China."

As Singapore will serve as the chair of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) next year, this visit to China is interpreted as a move aimed at coordinating relations between ASEAN and China beyond the bilateral relationship between Singapore and China.

Chairman Xia also met with Vice President Han Jeong on this day and pledged to deepen cooperation.
