Today 1,800 Italian high schools joined the strike against cuts to education, while in Paris thousands of young people, including the Italian activist Eva in Erasmus, blocked boulevards and participated in a strike of 60,000 people, denouncing police violence, disproportionate use of tear gas and degraded school conditions in banlieues similar to those in Italy.

In Paris, a peaceful student demonstration to demand more resources and school staff, the repeal of Parcoursup and the renovation of buildings was interrupted by clashes with hundreds of black blocs who threw stones and cones at the police, causing injuries and damage.

In Italy, the costs of nursery schools vary considerably between municipalities: for families with ISEE up to 15 thousand euros, the total monthly expense (fee and canteen) ranges from 60 euros in Mantua to 553 euros in Belluno; for Isee up to 25 thousand euros, from 100 euros in Catanzaro to 645 euros in Udine. The confederal secretary of the Uil, Santo Biondo, denounces the missed opportunity of the Pnrr and calls for structural investments to reduce territorial inequalities in access to educational services for early childhood.

The government has increased the resources for the total or partial free of charge of textbooks and established a fund of 20 million euros per year from 2027 for families with ISEE up to 40,000 euros, while the book bonus remains at 20 million but has also been extended to first and third grade students. However, consumer associations report that the increases in school book prices, combined with the 'recommended' book strategy, are causing families' spending to rise above the official ceilings, reaching up to 1,300 euros per student, and are calling for the extension of the 19% personal income tax deduction for documented purchases of school supplies.

The Ministry of Education has published the list of 6,342 schools benefiting from an extraordinary fund of almost 20 million for air conditioning. Each will receive 3,153 euros, but unions and oppositions criticize the reduced amount per chamber and the timing.

The President of the Republic signed the school decree approved by the Council of Ministers on 24 September, published in the Official Journal and in force from 1 October. From 2027/28, the provision introduces a 30% ceiling for foreign students not born in Italy and with little knowledge of Italian, with exceptions for those who attended nursery school. 3.4 million have been allocated for 2027 and 14.1 million for 2028 for language enhancement courses. The ban on access to school with a misrepresented face and the Cpia courses for parents of pupils in difficulty have also been confirmed, with fines of 200 to 1,000 euros for violators. The decree now passes to the Senate for conversion into law.
