Se lì ti capita di essere solo non è facile, perché poi ti rendi conto che devi lottare per una cosa che non hai fatto mentre adesso tu dovresti fare l'esatto contrario, cioè gareggiare perché te lo meriti. Da solo è difficile da accettare. Se hai qualcuno accanto, ti aiuta, ti tira su il morale", ha aggiunto Schwazer.
"Se avessi saputo che dal 2016 sarebbe stata una battaglia di questo tipo, probabilmente avrei rinunciato subito", ha affermato l'atleta altoatesino. "Però è sempre stato un processo a tappe. Si faceva una perizia, poi un'altra ancora… E alla fine si è arrivati a cinque anni che sono stati molto impegnativi, e devo dire grazie a mia moglie, che è molto intelligente e molto tollerante, e non mi ha mai rimproverato di nulla".
