Alison dos Santos wins third Diamond League title in the 400m hurdles in Brussels

Alison dos Santos, aka Piu, from São Paulo, won, for the third time in his career, the title of the Diamond League, the main athletics circuit, in the 400 meter hurdles.

The Brazilian won, by far, this Saturday's race (5), which ended the Brussels (Belgium) stage, the last of the season, with a time of 46.70.

The dispute had a green and yellow double. Matheus Lima from Ceará came in third place, with 48s18. North American Trevor Bassitt took silver (48.03).

It was the third time that Brazilians shared the podium this season, after the stages in Stockholm (Sweden), in June, and Slask (Poland), last month.

The race did not have the participation of Piu's two main rivals: the North American Rai Benjamin, current Olympic champion; and the Norwegian Karsten Warholm, who was the world record holder until August, when he was surpassed by the athlete from São Paulo in the previous stage of the Diamond League, in Zurich (Switzerland).

Alison won the six 400 m hurdles events he competed in on the circuit in 2026. He also won in Xiamen (China), Oslo (Norway) and Slask (Poland). The barreirista did not only compete in the London (Great Britain) stage, in July.

Two-time Olympic bronze medalist, at the Games in Tokyo (Japan) and Paris (France), Piu already had two Diamond League wins on his resume, in 2022 and 2024. Also in 2022, the barreirist was champion of the World Championships in Eugene (United States), taking silver three years later, in the Japanese capital.

Triple jump

Another Brazilian competing this Saturday in the last stage of the Diamond League was Almir Júnior. The Mato Grosso native took fifth place in the triple jump, with a mark of 16.42 m, achieved on the second attempt.

The victory went to Andy Díaz, a Cuban naturalized Italian, who reached 17.74 m. Portuguese Pedro Pichardo (17.51 ​​m) took silver and Jamaican Jordan Scott (17.18) took bronze.
