School shooting at elementary school – at least three children dead, perpetrators shot by police

Dead and injured in shooting at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon. According to reports from US broadcasters CBS and CNN, several people were killed and others were injured. Apparently the dead were three children. The suspected shooter is also dead, police said.

According to police spokeswoman Sheila Miller, police received an emergency call at 12:59 p.m. local time about a shot fired at a car in front of Silver Rail Elementary School. Emergency services arrived at the scene a few minutes later. The suspect was shot shortly afterwards. It was initially not known whether this was done by police officers or another person.

The school was locked down. According to the Bend-La Pine School District, emergency responders were busy checking rooms one by one and getting everyone out of the building.

Silver Rail Elementary School is located in Bend, about 100 miles southeast of Portland. According to the Oregon Department of Education, 459 children in kindergarten through fifth grade were enrolled there last year.
