Andalusia and Catalonia will activate this Sunday, September 6, the orange warning due to significant risk due to the expected high temperatures, according to the forecasts of the information provided by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), which specify that the Andalusian region will also maintain the yellow alert due to complications due to adverse coastal phenomena.
In parallel, the Aemet contemplates that a total of ten autonomous communities will remain at risk of yellow level due to high thermal values: Aragon, Balearic Islands, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Community of Madrid, Community of Navarra, Basque Country, La Rioja and the Valencian Community, to which is added Catalonia itself, which will also register sections at this same warning level.
Regarding the most significant phenomena, the state agency highlights the presence of significantly high temperatures in most of the Peninsula and the archipelagos, haze in the Canary Islands and the south of the peninsula, very strong gusts of trade wind in the Canary Islands, as well as storms that could be locally intense in the Cantabrian area, the upper Ebro, the north of the Iberian Peninsula and the east of the Northern Plateau.
Regarding the meteorological evolution, the eastern half and the extreme south of the peninsula will be under the influence of a subtropical air mass that will leave intervals of medium and high clouds with a tendency to clear, while in the rest of the Peninsula, where slightly cloudy skies will predominate, the impact of a dana will lead to the formation of abundant cloudiness from the central hours, causing scattered showers and storms in the northwest and central-north.
Likewise, the forecast includes mists and low clouds on the coasts of Galicia, Ceuta and Melilla, slightly cloudy weather in the Balearic Islands and cloudiness in the Canary Islands with the possibility of some precipitation or occasional storms on the summits.
Although thermometers will register high values for the time, maximum temperatures will tend to decrease across the board—with notable drops in western Galicia—except in the Balearic Islands, the eastern coast, the Cantabrian Sea and the southwest quadrant, where they will rise.
With this scenario, 35 degrees will be exceeded in large areas of the southern half, the northeast quadrant and the archipelagos, reaching 40 degrees in the Guadalquivir basin and in points of the northeastern depressions.
For their part, the minimum temperatures will experience decreases in the majority of the territory, with the exception of the Balearic Islands, the Strait and the northeastern third, where few changes or slight increases are expected.
This situation will favor the development of tropical nights in large areas of the southern half and the northeast, not ruling out that temperatures will remain above 25 degrees in parts of the Canary Islands, the Guadalquivir and the Mediterranean.
Finally, Aemet predicts very strong gusts of trade wind in the Canary Islands, moderate wind from the west on the Cantabrian coast and the east with strong intervals in the Strait, while in the rest of the country the light wind with a western component will predominate, except on the Mediterranean side, where it will blow with an eastern and southern component.
Prediction by autonomous communities
- GALICIA: Little cloudy with intervals of low morning clouds, which will be accompanied by fog on the western coast and high clouds in the rest. Some scattered weak rain is not ruled out in the western half accompanied by a storm. Possible light haze.
The decreasing temperatures, which will be more pronounced than the maximum in the interior of the western half, which will be notable, except in La Mariña, where rising maximums are expected. The wind will blow lightly with a predominance of the western component.
- ASTURIAS: A little cloudy, increasing to cloudy in the afternoon, when an isolated shower or occasional storm in the Cordillera is not ruled out. Declining temperatures and variable light wind, with a predominance of the western component on the coast, which will be somewhat more intense in central hours.
- CANTABRIA: Cloudy skies at dawn, which will clear and open up throughout the morning, with a predominance of low clouds at the end of the day. An isolated shower or occasional storm is not ruled out, most likely in the afternoon in the Cordillera.
Minimum temperatures decreasing in the southwest and without changes or slightly rising in the rest. The maximums are decreasing in the southern third and rising in the rest. The wind will be light and variable with a predominance of the west on the coast.
- BASQUE COUNTRY: Cloudy skies, opening up large clearings during the morning and evolving cloudiness forming in the south in the afternoon. Probable showers and storms in the interior, which could extend to the coast.
The minimum temperatures without changes or in a slight decrease, which will be more pronounced in the south of Álava, and the maximum temperatures in a notable decrease, locally extraordinary in the interior of Gipuzkoa. The wind will be light and variable, tending in the afternoon to a northerly component in the interior and to the west on the coast.
- CASTILLA Y LEÓN: Little cloudy in the southwestern quadrant. In the rest of the areas, cloudy intervals of medium, high and diurnal clouds will predominate, with the probability of some showers and storms, especially in the northern and eastern thirds.
Temperatures in slight or moderate decrease. The wind will blow variable, with a predominance of the west and southwest in the afternoon, light or moderate, with some strong intervals and very strong gusts in areas close to the storms.
- NAVARRA: Cloudy skies with medium and high clouds, clearing during the afternoon when some scattered showers or occasional storms are not ruled out.
The minimum temperatures are rising and the maximum temperatures are falling, except in the Cantabrian Slope where increases are expected. The wind will be light and variable, tending to the north at the end of the afternoon.
- LA RIOJA: Cloudy intervals, with medium and high clouds and diurnal evolution. Chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.
The minimum temperatures are rising and the maximum temperatures are slightly or moderately falling. Variable wind, predominating from the southeast in the afternoon, light or moderate, without ruling out some very strong gusts in areas close to the storms.
- ARAGÓN: Cloudy intervals. Minimum temperatures with few changes, except for increases in Cinco Villas and the western half of the Ebro valley; the maximums in decline, continuing the significantly high values in large areas.
The wind will blow light from a variable direction, with occasionally moderate light southwest intervals in the Pyrenees and the Iberian system in the afternoon.
- CATALONIA: Lightly cloudy skies with intervals of high clouds; In the Pyrenees, daytime cloudiness is expected in the afternoon. Minimum temperatures will remain unchanged
The maximum temperatures will decrease in Ampurdán, increase on the coast of Tarragona and without changes in the rest, with significantly high values continuing in large areas and reaching 39-40 degrees in the interior.
The wind will be light from a variable direction, with the southern component predominating in the afternoon, with intervals of moderate intensity on the coast of Tarragona.
- EXTREMADURA: Little cloudy or clear, with some daytime clouds. The minimum temperatures are slightly or moderately decreasing and the maximum temperatures are increasing, which may be locally notable in the southern half. The variable wind, tending to the west component, generally weak.
- COMMUNITY OF MADRID: Little cloudy with intervals of medium and high clouds in the early morning and evolution in the central hours of the day, in the north, when there is a probability of showers and storms in the mountains, mainly in high areas. Possible light haze.
Temperatures without changes or in a slight decrease, which will be more pronounced than the minimum in the southwest and the maximum in flat areas of the eastern half. The wind will blow light variable, tending towards south and southwest in central hours.
- CASTILLA-LA MANCHA: Intervals of medium and high clouds, which could come with weak rains and scattered showers, tending to be slightly cloudy from the morning, although with some evolving cloudiness, in the afternoon, mainly in mountain areas when a shower or storm is not ruled out in the Central System and Montes de Toledo. Possible light haze.
Minimum temperatures with local increases in the east of Guadalajara and without changes or with a decrease, generally slight, in the rest. The maximums are decreasing in the eastern half and in La Mancha, increasing in the west of Toledo and without changes in the rest. 38 degrees will be reached in the southwest of Ciudad Real. - VALENCIAN COMMUNITY: Lightly cloudy sky with high clouds, increasing at cloudy intervals in the afternoon. Minimum temperatures decreasing, locally unchanged; the maximums rising on the Atlantic slope and without changes or falling on the Mediterranean side. Variable light winds. Lift strong in the Strait, with occasionally very strong gusts in exposed areas until the morning.
- CANARY ISLANDS: Intervals of medium and high clouds tending to slightly cloudy in the western islands during the morning. In the north, low cloud intervals will predominate. Light calima, which will be more significant in the midlands and peaks of the eastern province.
Temperatures, in general, are slightly decreasing in the northern midlands and slightly rising on south-facing slopes, where they can locally reach 34 °C, especially in the midlands, 37 °C in the case of Gran Canaria. Trade wind with strong intervals and occasional very strong gusts on the southeast and northwest slopes, and with breezes on the southwest coasts of the mountainous islands.
