Andreas Scheuer rejects allegations of false statements in the car toll process

At the start of the trial, former Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer rejected the accusation of making false statements in connection with the failed car toll. Scheuer told the Berlin regional court that he had answered truthfully before the Bundestag investigative committee. “It takes a lot out of me emotionally to sit here today.”

The public prosecutor's office accuses Scheuer of lying to the investigative committee. According to the indictment, representatives of the proposed toll operators offered Scheuer in November 2018 not to sign the contract until the European Court of Justice had ruled on Austria's lawsuit against the car toll. In this regard, Scheuer and Schulze stated in the Bundestag investigative committee “deliberately untruthful” and “contrary to their actual recollection” that they could not remember a “postponement offer” at a meeting on November 29, 2018.

Scheuer said in court: “I have no recollection of an offer to postpone.” He did not have this at the time of the investigative committee's questioning - and he does not have it today either. Scheuer (51) went on to say that he didn't think he had done everything right in his political life. But political responsibility and the accusation of a crime are something different.
