Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation against Ahmet Davutoğlu on charges of insulting the President.

Article 299/1 of the Turkish Penal Code against Ahmet Davutoğlu by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. initiated an investigation under the article.

Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that an investigation has been launched regarding the posts on social media platforms containing statements considered to be insulting to the President.

In the statement made in this context, as a result of the investigations carried out, the Prime Minister of the 62nd, 63rd and 64th Governments of the Republic of Turkey and the Chairman of the dissolved Future Party, Ahmet Davutoğlu, was convicted under Article 299/1 of the Turkish Penal Code. It was stated that an investigation was launched within the scope of the crime of "Insulting the President" regulated in the article.

The statement continued: "The investigation is being carried out meticulously within the framework of the relevant legislation. It is respectfully announced to the public."

WILL TESTIFY

According to the news in ANKA, the investigation; It was launched after social media posts regarding Davutoğlu's speech at a program he attended about six years ago came to the fore again.

It was learned that within the scope of the investigation carried out by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Davutoğlu will come to Ankara Courthouse at 15.00 on Monday, September 7 and testify as a suspect.

STATEMENT FROM DAVUTOĞLU'S LAWYER

On the other hand, according to the news in DHA; Ahmet Davutoğlu's lawyer, Hasan Seymen, made a statement on his virtual media account regarding the investigation launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Davutoğlu for the crime of 'insulting the President'. Seymen said, "Following the news in the media this morning that an investigation was launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against our Prime Minister Prof. Dr. Ahmet Davutoğlu on the charge of TCK 291/1 'insulting the President', I met with the Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor who conducted the investigation in his capacity as his deputy and received information.

The subject of the investigation is some of the answers given by our Prime Minister, in his capacity as the Future Party Chairman and the last elected Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey, to the accusations of a person who was obviously a provocateur in the Genç district of Bingöl in September 2021.

Our esteemed Prime Minister, as a statesman who has adopted transparency as a principle of life, sees it as a principled obligation to respond to every allegation made against him and to contribute to every legal process carried out.

He/she will inform the prosecutor's office accordingly at the agreed time. I regret to state that; "I felt a deep sadness regarding the legal order in my country, as I learned from the press, rather than from the legal authorities, about an investigation launched against our Prime Minister, who served our country with honor," he said.
