The Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized the EU's recommendation to allocate resources for the monument proposed by the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted to the recommendation of the European Parliament Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality, in its opinion on the 2027 EU budget, to allocate resources for a monument containing allegations against the Turkish Armed Forces by the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus.

In the statement made by the Ministry, it was claimed that EU institutions were tools for the Greek side's propaganda instead of contributing to the solution of the Cyprus issue, and that this approach further damaged intercommunal trust.

"HISTORICAL FACTS ARE BEING DISTORTED"

In the statement, it was stated that the Turkish Armed Forces ensured the security of the Turkish Cypriot people with the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation and contributed to the long-standing peace environment on the Island.

In the statement, it was argued that the allegations made by the Greek Cypriot side distorted historical facts and were politicized, and called on EU institutions to adhere to the principles of impartiality and justice.

"INITIATIVES THAT DRIVE Türkiye AWAY FROM THE EU SHOULD BE AVOIDED"

In its statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on EU officials to avoid steps that could negatively affect relations between Türkiye and the European Union.

The statement said, "We call on EU officials not to become tools of circles that aim to distance Turkey from the EU with every step they take."
