Anti-corruption denounces the irregular promotion of the number two of the Government delegate and PSOE candidate for Valencia

The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office has denounced in court the alleged irregular promotion as an official of the current subdelegate of the Government in Valencia, José Rodríguez Jurado. The internal promotion as an official of the Canet d'en Berenguer City Council of the person who acts as number two of the Government delegate, Pilar Bernabé, was already in the spotlight of the Valencian Anti-Fraud Agency.

The Prosecutor's Office had been investigating the process for some time, although it has now decided to act against the subdelegate upon seeing signs of crime in his internal promotion from subgroup C1, as administrative, directly to A1, the highest civil servant category, in the Valencian council, as Las Provincias reported this Thursday. Sources from the Delegation, in any case, clarify that the complaint is against the council and that the subdelegate has not yet received any notification.

After this promotion now in question, Rodríguez Jurado was appointed subdelegate of the Government in Valencia by Bernabé, whose case now breaks out in the middle of the pre-campaign for the general elections. Bernabé, in fact, will have to resign as a delegate upon being confirmed by the PSOE as its head of the list for Valencia to the Congress of Deputies. This unexpected move for many, in any case, will not make him give up his candidacy for Mayor of Valencia in 2027.

In the case of Rodríguez Jurado, the Valencian Anti-Fraud Agency pointed to a "violation of the regulations governing access to public employment", arguing that it does not allow "vertical internal promotion per saltum", that is, directly from the C1 subgroup to the A1 subgroup.

Antifraud concluded that there may have been an "allegation of fraud or corruption in a case of human resources management in public administrations." In fact, what was investigated was that this alleged fraud was not limited to the municipal level, but was extended with the appointment of Rodríguez Jurado as subdelegate of the Government in Valencia.

The point is that A1 was what allowed his subsequent promotion to subdelegate in February 2024, almost a year after managing to reach the highest official category in a City Council in socialist hands.
