UN General Assembly: Guterres defends two-state solution and world leaders meet in New York

Guterres was applauded when he defended the two-state solution on the Israel-Palestine issue.

The US delegation did not follow the demonstration of support.

In a farewell tone, Guterres, who leaves command of the UN at the end of this year - he has been in the position since 2017 -, admitted that the organization is in crisis and needs to reform itself to reflect current times.

Each country's delegation has six seats in the General Assembly plenary. In Brazil, the first lady, Janja, and Chancellor Mauro Vieira already take their places.

In addition to them, there are also Celso Amorim, special advisor to the Presidency for International Affairs; the Minister of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight Against Hunger, Wellington Dias; Audo Faleiro, deputy chief advisor of the Special Advisor to the President of the Republic; and ambassador Sérgio Danese.

Teleprompter changes

The teleprompter operating room, a system used by authorities to read their speeches, moved this year and is in a room that can be seen by the General Assembly.

The change came after US President Donald Trump complained about the device's operation last year. He criticized the UN at the beginning of the speech, saying it had stopped working. However, according to the United Nations, it was the White House that did not know how to operate it.

According to TV Globo reporter Felipe Coaglio, the UN wanted to make the operation more transparent.

Team prepares Lula's suitcases even before his speech at the UN General Assembly

The preparation took place even before Lula's speech at the UN General Assembly because he will embark back to Brazil this Tuesday, in the evening.

Brazilian authorities have breakfast with Lula; PHOTOS

Brazilian government authorities arrived in the last few minutes at the residence of the Brazilian ambassador to the UN, Sérgio Danese, to have breakfast with the Brazilian president, according to the TV Globo team present at the scene.

Lula's special advisor, Celso Amorim, and Brazilian Foreign Minister, Mauro Vieira, were seen entering the residence.

The Brazilian delegation will be positioned in the 10th row of the UN Auditorium during the General Assembly this week, according to a map obtained by a g1 reporter on site.

The Brazilian diplomats will be in the leftmost column of the auditorium (in relation to the stage) and right in front of the Chinese delegation.

Brazil will be a few rows away from the United States delegation, which will be in the 7th row and in a more centralized position in the auditorium.

Interim President of Venezuela is in the US for the UN General Assembly

The interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, arrived in the United States on Monday night (21) for the UN General Assembly.

After arriving, Delcy also signed the UN visitors' book alongside António Guterres, secretary-general of the multilateral institution.

Rubio says he is open to meeting with Iran at the UN

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said this Tuesday (22) that he was open to meeting with the Iranian delegation at the UN General Assembly.

"We're open to that. I don't think there's anything on the agenda at this point, but we're certainly open to something like that, especially if there are prospects that it will lead to something positive and ultimately achieve the goal of all of this. And that goal is the fact that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon, it just can't," Rubio said in an interview with NBC News.

Earlier, a senior Iranian official told the Reuters news agency that the country would be open to diplomacy during the General Assembly and that the team on the ground is qualified to negotiate.

UN General Assembly has reinforced security

Security was reinforced around the UN due to the General Assembly. Some streets around the New York complex are blocked and only authorized people can pass.

Journalists were already queuing up to enter the UN headquarters this Tuesday morning (22) and went through two security checks, one of which was an x-ray, similar to that at airports, according to teams from TV Globo and g1 present at the scene.

The line of journalists, from countries around the world, ran down the sidewalk and into the street.

Iran's president says he will denounce US 'intimidation and savagery' in speech to the UN General Assembly

The president of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, said this Tuesday (22) that he will denounce in a speech to the UN General Assembly the "intimidation and savagery" of the United States. The two countries have been at war for more than six months.

"I hope that people in the world become aware of the unjust behavior that is taking place in the region and that the [UN] assembly, held under the motto 'confidence', returns confidence to the world and works to end war and bloodshed," Pezeshkian told Iranian state agencies during a flight to New York.

"We will talk about the suffering of our children in Minab and Lamerd and the savagery of those responsible for these crimes. A human being does not commit acts like these, and these behaviors are regrettable," he added.

Entourage standing in front of Lula's residence in NY

A motorcade with several cars is stationed in front of the residence of the Brazilian ambassador to the UN, Sérgio Danese, where President Lula is staying for the UN General Assembly.

Security guards, drivers and federal police agents were present at the scene, according to a TV Globo reporter present at the scene.

Lula had not yet left the venue for his commitments this Tuesday (22).
