Atakum Municipality Workers Demanded Their Unpaid Wages for Months

Workers' wages, which have not been paid for months in Atakum Municipality, were brought to the municipality's regular council meeting in September. Although the parliament decided to use the loan last month, the application was not finalized and the payments could not be made. DİSK General-İş Union Samsun Branch President Mutlu Karabacak entered the meeting room and reacted.

Deputy speaker of the parliament, Halil Taşkın, intervened when Karabacak raised his voice, saying that the workers could not make ends meet and their salaries should be paid as soon as possible. Taşkın ended the session by stating that the issue could be discussed outside the parliament after the meeting. Karabacak later made a press statement with union members in front of the town hall.

Emphasizing that municipal workers are already having difficulty making ends meet due to high inflation and falling purchasing power, Karabacak said, "Now we are left alone with the desperation of not being paid for months. We do not want handouts, we want the wages we deserved months ago." Karabacak said, "No one should have any doubt that if this situation continues, we will carry out work stoppages."
