Audi sees great interest in Formula 1 team, but rules out quick sale

According to Audi managing director Gernot Döllner, the new German team in Formula 1 arouses a lot of desire. In a German media roundtable on the sidelines of the Spanish Grand Prix, he was asked whether there were plans to sell further shares in the racing team. “The interest is very great, I can say that,” replied Döllner, but at the same time made it clear: The construct with the participation of Qatar and Audi as majority shareholders makes this possible. “But we have no need to act hastily at the moment.”

The German car manufacturer has been represented in the premier motorsport class with its own team since this year. Audi had taken over the Swiss private racing team Sauber. The Qatar sovereign wealth fund has - as it was put in the press release at the time - “a significant minority stake” in the team. How high this participation is is not known or confirmed.

“We are feeling positive momentum”

Rules apply to other shareholders, as Döllner pointed out again. If they take such a step, it will be subject to a “very, very structured process”. In addition, it is “unimaginable” that Audi has a minority share in the team.

Before today's race (3 p.m./Sky and RTL), the two Audi drivers Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto are in 15th and 14th place in the classification. Together they have 16 points. In the constructors' championship, which is crucial for the distribution of funds at the end of the season, Audi takes 8th place out of 11 teams.

“We are feeling positive momentum,” said Döllner, referring to the impact of the much-discussed entry into Formula 1 on the Audi brand. Audi wants to compete for the World Cup in 2030 - according to the plan.
