Autopsy carried out on Monday on the worker who died in the Colosseum, seven under investigation for manslaughter

The task of carrying out the autopsy on the body of Andrea Moretti, the 22-year-old worker who died in the night between Tuesday and Wednesday in a work accident inside the Colosseum, will be entrusted on Monday. Meanwhile, the Rome Prosecutor's Office has registered seven people under investigation for manslaughter in relation to the violation of workplace safety regulations. This is a necessary action in view of the autopsy examination, which will be carried out by the medical examiners of Sapienza.

Meanwhile, sources from the Ministry of Culture let it be known that before ordering the reopening of the Colosseum Park to the public, which will also remain closed on Friday 25 September, the minister Alessandro Giuli "reserves the right to verify the direction of the investigations underway by the investigators and to meet, together with the managers of the MiC and the director Quilici, the workers of the Colosseum park to verify whether their psychological conditions are suitable for the reopening".

The investigations

The magistrates of Piazzale Clodio are analyzing the documentation acquired relating to the contract and the company in charge of the subcontracted works. In the investigation by the Rome Prosecutor's Office, in which manslaughter is being prosecuted in relation to the violation of workplace safety regulations, seven people are registered in the register of suspects. The investigation will have to clarify, also with the help of technical consultancy, the dynamics of the accident and verify whether there were security breaches or whether it was a human error.

At the time of the tragedy, other workers were present on the construction site, including the victim's brother-in-law, who had been working on the work for a few months in view of the inauguration scheduled for October, and were interviewed by the investigators.

Workers' meeting called

"For Monday 28 September we have convened an assembly of all the workers involved in the Colosseum Archaeological Park, open both to the direct staff of the Ministry and to all workers employed in the procurement and subcontracting supply chain to share the mobilization process. We must join forces to put the safety of those who work in cultural heritage at the centre".
