Lawyer Mehmet Pehlivan was transferred to Kandıra F Type Prison at midnight

Mehmet Pehlivan, the detained lawyer of detained Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, was transferred from Karatepe High Security Penitentiary Institution in Çorlu to Kandıra F Type Prison while his hearings were ongoing.

NEW Party Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir announced that Pehlivan was transferred on his social media account.

Emir included the following statements in his post on social media:

"Ekrem İmamoğlu's lawyer, Mehmet Pehlivan, was transferred from the well type prison in Çorlu to Kandıra F Type prison without informing anyone, around 03:00 last night, while his hearings were continuing!

This midnight operation, carried out as if stealing goods from a fire, is a clear violation of the prohibition of torture and ill-treatment, and the right to defense and fair trial. This torture, which was inflicted on a lawyer who was arrested simply for defending his client, has become open torture. I invite all lawyers, bar associations and professional chambers to take a clear, harsh and strong reaction against this unlawfulness. Defense is a right, it cannot be silenced!”

'MEHMET PEHLİVAN' REACTION FROM İMAMOĞLU

Ekrem İmamoğlu reacted harshly to Pehlivan's prison change at midnight.

İmamoğlu, whose message was shared on the "Presidential Candidate Office" account, said, "It is impossible to describe this cruelty committed against my lawyer Mehmet Pehlivan. What kind of a state can it be to exile a person in the middle of the night, without any reason, with a practice that violates the ban on ill-treatment and torture, while his hearings are ongoing? What kind of a crime is it to be a lawyer and to defend justice?" he said.
