“Fraudsters are calling citizens en masse, and also sending messages in instant messengers allegedly from employees of the Central Bank, commercial banks or the State Services portal. The scammers claim that all non-cash rubles in accounts and deposits from September 1 “are subject to mandatory conversion into a digital ruble.” If this is not done, then their savings could allegedly “burn out,” they said.

Next, the attackers force citizens to allegedly open a digital wallet using their “safe link,” which leads to a phishing site. When you click on such a link, the potential victim’s funds go to drop accounts, Moshelovka added.

They recalled that the Bank of Russia and commercial banks never force citizens to compulsorily convert money into digital rubles. “Do not click on links from messages with offers to “open a secure gateway” or “activate a digital wallet,” the experts concluded.
