Xi Jinping calls for WTO reform to strengthen the role of developing countries

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for reform of the World Trade Organization (WTO) to ensure greater participation of developing countries in international financial institutions. Xinhua reports this.

According to the Chinese leader, countries of the global South “must hold high the banner of multilateralism, uphold the authority and role of the UN, support reforms aimed at improving the effectiveness of multilateral institutions, lead the WTO reform process in the right direction, and rebuild and improve the international financial architecture.”

Xi Jinping noted that the world is now experiencing profound changes and these countries are becoming a key driving force of multipolarity. At the BRICS summit, he called on them to work together to develop security governance and to “jointly counter traditional and non-traditional threats.”
