Student Arseny Vakhtin received a prize for saving a pensioner from a fire in Essentuki

Student Arseny Vakhtin, who saved a 94-year-old woman from a fire in a private residential building in Essentuki, received an award named after director Tigran Keosayan, RT reports.

On August 30, a two-story private house caught fire on Bolshaya Borgustanskaya Street in Essentuki. Vakhtin walked past the house and saw a girl calling for help. She, as it turned out later, managed to run out with her three children, but her great-grandmother remained at home. Vakhtin went into the burning building, pulled out the woman and handed her over to her relatives. The victim suffered burns and is in hospital.

“Student Arseniy Vakhtin, who saved a 94-year-old woman from a fire in a private residential building in Essentuki, received the Tigran Keosayan Prize,” the message says.

The student himself, who is studying to become a rescue technician, as RT notes, said that he considers himself not a hero, but simply a person who did the right thing.

“We were taught the correct actions in case of a fire. The most important thing is not to panic, to control the process. It is also very important to be careful when removing the victim, but at the same time you need to be quick in your movements. All this knowledge was very useful to me,” he shared.

The Keosayan Prize was established by the editor-in-chief of the international media group "Russia Today" and the RT television channel Margarita Simonyan after she learned about the story of teachers from Orenburg Buguruslan Liya Galeeva and Lyudmila Platonova, who, risking their lives, protected children from an inadequate man with a knife.

The amount of the award is one million rubles. Simonyan personally selects the recipients of the award.

The award has already been received by two teachers from Buguruslan, the family of a security guard who died in an attack on a college in Anapa, janitor Khairullo Ibadullaev, who saved a child who fell from a window in St. Petersburg, residents of St. Petersburg who saved a boy who fell from a tenth-floor window with the help of a jacket, Hero of Russia Sergei Yarashev, who alone held positions in the area of the settlement for 68 days Grishino in the Red Army direction, as well as Makhachkala resident Abdurakhman Abdurakhmanov, who saved a girl during a flood.
