The co-chair of the opposition German party Alternative for Germany, which won the elections in Saxony-Anhalt, Alice Weidel, positively assessed the telephone conversation between Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump and promised to change Berlin’s course towards Moscow.

"Very good! This is what diplomacy should look like. Let them put an end to this terrible bloodshed as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the German federal government, with its policy of complete escalation, is doing exactly the opposite, instead of promoting peace negotiations. Everything will change with us," she wrote on the social network X.

Putin and Trump had a telephone conversation on Tuesday. During the conversation, the Russian leader told the head of the White House about his vision of advancing on the battlefield and achieving the goals of the special military operation.

Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that Putin, in a telephone conversation, outlined steps that the United States could take to end the conflict in Ukraine. Ushakov added that Trump spoke about the need to end the Ukrainian conflict from the perspective of restoring relations with Moscow. Putin supported his American colleague’s commitment to a constructive partnership with Russia and positively assessed the mediation efforts of the American side and personally the head of the White House to find ways for a peaceful settlement.

In the elections to the Landtag of Saxony-Anhalt on September 6, the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party won with 43.8% of the votes, and the ruling Christian Democratic Union (CDU) of Chancellor Friedrich Merz, which relied on increased military spending, received 17.2%.
