The Guangzhou Sports Delegation won double first place and the Sportsmanship Award at the 10th Guangdong Provincial Games for People with Disabilities

China News Service, Maoming, September 7 (Zhang Lu, Liang Sheng) The 10th Guangdong Province Disabled Persons Games (hereinafter referred to as the "Provincial Disabled Games") concluded successfully in Maoming on the 6th. With outstanding results of 191 gold medals and 313 medals, the Guangzhou Sports Delegation ranked first in both the gold medal list and the medal list, and won the "Sports Ethics and Style Award", achieving a "double harvest" of sports performance and spiritual civilization.

At this Provincial Paralympic Games, the Guangzhou delegation achieved remarkable results. Among them, in terms of competitive events, Guangzhou sent 183 athletes to participate in fierce competitions in 15 major events and 266 minor events, winning 163 gold medals, 72 silver medals, and 20 bronze medals. The total number of medals reached 255, breaking 1 national record and 34 provincial Paralympic Games records. The scale of participation and competitive results were the highest in history.

In addition, Guangzhou athletes also performed well in 55 minor events in 8 major sports and Special Olympics sports, winning 28 golds, 21 silvers and 9 bronzes.

Projects with traditional advantages continue to demonstrate "Guangzhou's power." The wheelchair basketball event won all 4 gold medals in men's and women's three-person and five-a-side events; the swimming event won 46 gold medals, of which Cheng Beibei won 6 golds alone, and broke the Provincial Paralympic Games record five times; the track and field event won 45 gold medals, and Wen Shaohui, who participated for the first time, won 3 gold medals and broke 1 national record. The six events of track and field, swimming, wheelchair basketball, boccia, badminton, and tennis all won first place in the overall score.

Emerging potential projects achieved historic breakthroughs. The Guangdong wheelchair fencing team and the triathlon team were officially formed at the end of 2024. In less than two years, the two young teams have stunned the competition with their daring attitude. The fencing team won 17 golds, 12 silvers and 3 bronzes, and the triathlon team won 4 golds and 1 silver, contributing new gold medal growth points to the Guangzhou delegation.

In recent years, Guangzhou has continued to develop a mass sports service network for people with disabilities, opening nearly 20 mass sports popularization and promotion activity points such as chess, go, darts, basketball, table tennis, and cheerleading, and has served nearly 10,000 people with disabilities.

In 2025, taking advantage of the opportunity of the Special Paralympic Games, various districts in Guangzhou will carry out more than 200 colorful cultural and sports promotion activities for people with disabilities, setting off waves of enthusiasm in communities, schools, and institutions.
