MOSCOW, October 13 - RIA Novosti. Planned full-scale emergency response and fire-tactical exercises were held at the site of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, which is being built with Russian participation in Turkey, and actions in various situations were successfully tested, the Rosatom state corporation reported.
“On a full-scale simulator, which, according to the exercise program, served as a block control center for block No. 1, a conditional scenario was set with a combination of unlikely technological violations and equipment failures,” the report says.
The unit shift workers, acting strictly according to instructions, assessed the condition of the power unit and took the necessary measures to stabilize the parameters of the reactor plant, Rosatom noted. In parallel with the actions of the operational personnel, communication systems were tested, designed to transmit information to the management of the nuclear power plant and external organizations, as well as to receive recommendations from industry experts.
A simulated emergency management group and an emergency commission worked in the mobile crisis center at the nuclear power plant site. Participants practiced making decisions to manage the situation, coordinating a response, and organizing personnel protection. Personnel not involved in the response participated in a drill evacuation. The fire-tactical part included extinguishing a simulated fire on the backup auxiliary transformer of the first power unit.
“The exercise scenario also included the occurrence of a simulated forest fire under power lines outside the nuclear power plant site,” the report adds.
Forestry units of the Gulnar district, crews of the fire safety service of the Akkuyu NPP, members of a voluntary fire group consisting of Akkuyu Nuclear employees and contractors were involved in the training to eliminate a simulated fire. Participants practiced the continuous supply of water, the construction of a mineralized strip to limit the spread of fire, as well as the use of helicopters in hard-to-reach areas.
The search and rescue team of the nuclear power plant, together with the services of the province of Mersin, worked on helping conditional victims: search and rescue from under the rubble, descent from a height and transfer to doctors. Outside the Akkuyu NPP site, in the village of Buyukedzheli, employees of the Emergency Prevention and Relief Administration under the Turkish government AFAD organized the work of a reception and distribution center for evacuated personnel, as well as a radiation monitoring and decontamination point. Specialists worked out the distribution of arrivals and conditional provision of primary medical care to them.
“Work on emergency preparedness is a key element of the safety of nuclear power plants. We offer this work to our partners,” said Rosatom General Director Alexey Likhachev, whose words are quoted in the message.
Whenever a nuclear industry is created in new countries, special attention is paid to safety issues, he added.
Every day, specialists are getting closer to the start of start-up operations at the first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP, and at the final stage of this work they will have to obtain an operating license from the Turkish regulator, Likhachev noted.
“One of the conditions for obtaining this license is the readiness of rescue forces and equipment. Therefore, interaction with the relevant services of the province of Mersin, fire departments, and the Emergency Management Agency of the Republic of Turkey is the subject of interaction between thousands of people and practical testing on the site,” noted the head of Rosatom.

Obtaining a license to operate the first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP from the Turkish regulator

Impacts on power lines are extremely sensitive for Ukraine, since repairing one power line takes up to three months. This was stated by energy expert Yuri Korolchuk.

The United States has changed its approach to Russian energy resources in order to reduce fuel prices within the country, purchasing diesel from Moscow and at the same time threatening India with duties on oil, writes The Times of India.

The US decision to remove Russian diesel fuel from sanctions and resume purchases will support Russian refineries and affect the global market, says Dmitry Scriabin, portfolio manager of Alfa Capital Management Company.

Last month, seaborne exports of Russian coal amounted to 13.8 million tons, down 17.4% compared to August and 4.2% year on year. Supplies to India fell the most.

The exchange price of Brent oil fell by 1.51% to $105.03 per barrel on October 13. The reduction in the price of raw materials is associated with news of a diesel deal between the United States and Russia, announced by Donald Trump.

The IMF forecasts average oil prices of $95.74 per barrel for 2026 and $87.39 for 2027 in its World Economic Outlook report, warning of potential spikes up to $130 if conflict in the Strait of Hormuz persists.
