A young Palestinian man was killed by Israeli police bullets in Jerusalem

At dawn on Friday, the Israeli police announced that a young Palestinian man was shot and killed in the Bab al-Amoud area in the Old City of Jerusalem, under the pretext of his attempt to carry out a stabbing attack targeting its members.

The Israeli Police and Border Guard forces said in a joint official statement that the forces stationed in the vicinity of Damascus Gate thwarted what they described as a "terrorist operation."

The police claimed that the young man approached security and municipal officers, trying to attack them and carry out an assault using a “sharp object” (stabbing).

The statement added that police and border guards opened fire directly at the young man, killing him instantly.

Israeli medical and security sources confirmed that no injuries or losses were recorded among the security forces.

For its part, Palestinian media reported the news of the killing of the Palestinian young man by Israeli forces’ gunfire at dawn, claiming he attempted to carry out a stabbing attack.

The Damascus Gate area and the entrances to the Old City witnessed a major security alert immediately after the incident occurred, as the forces imposed a security cordon and obstructed the traffic of citizens heading to perform the dawn prayer.
