Rail strike in the Netherlands paralyzes traffic - trains to Germany are also affected

In the Netherlands, rail traffic is expected to be largely paralyzed this Wednesday due to a strike. There should only be a shuttle service between Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport. The operation of trams and buses is also likely to be affected.

The reason for this is an all-day strike by the unions to protest against planned cuts in the Dutch social system.

Long-distance and regional trains in Germany are also affected

According to the Dutch Railways, international long-distance trains that travel between Amsterdam and Berlin or Frankfurt/Main are also affected. According to Deutsche Bahn, tickets purchased before September 3rd for the trains affected by the strike could be canceled free of charge or used flexibly at a later date.

Several regional connections between Lower Saxony as well as North Rhine-Westphalia and the Netherlands are also affected - such as the trains from Münster to Enschede or from Aachen to Heerlen. The trains turn around at the German border stations. From there, replacement buses have been set up to the Dutch destination station.
