Bakırhan's assessment of the 'Terror-Free Türkiye' process

DEM Party Co-Chairman Tuncer Bakırhan made evaluations about the point reached in the process initiated under the name of "Terror-Free Türkiye".

Answering questions on T24's YouTube broadcast, Bakırhan said regarding the process, "Hopefully, more concrete steps will be taken with the opening of the Parliament in October. Peace is greater than anything. Once you start, it is impossible to stop. We have entered a phase that the leader cannot stop."

Bakırhan stated that they are waiting for the release of former co-chairs of HDP, Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ, and said, "There is no need for a law for Demirtaş and Yüksekdağ. There is an ECHR decision, so they can be released even after an hour. Hopefully, they will make it not only for that big congress, but also for the congress on September 6. MHP is also willing like us. Selahattin President, Figen President and all other friends are always on our agenda. The President and all our state interlocutors are on our agenda." "This is one of their agendas. We are not a movement that forgets our comrades inside," he said.

Regarding whether the elections were discussed during the meetings with the ruling party and AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan within the scope of the process, Bakırhan said, "This is unfair to both Mr. Bahçeli and Mr. Erdoğan" and used the following expressions:

"Will the President of a country, the head of a very important party, come and negotiate with us for elections? Is it that cheap, that simple? Those who express this idea are being very cheap and simple. Rest assured, there is no such thing. There is a sea of blood right next to us. It is not clear what will happen in Iran, the regime is not established in Syria yet, the balances are not established in Iraq. There is a 100-year-old Kurdish issue in Türkiye.
