PM base is attacked by gunfire after clashes leave two dead in Guarujá, SP

The attack took place on Avenida Manoel da Cruz Michael, in the Vila Santa Rosa neighborhood. According to the corporation, teams from the 21st Interior Military Police Battalion (BPM/I) were patrolling the community when they saw armed men and a confrontation ensued.

According to police, two suspects were shot. One of them, aged 23, was rescued by the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) and taken to Santo Amaro Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. The other, aged 18, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The corporation reported that two pistols were seized, one with a .40 caliber and another with a 9 mm caliber, with the number scratched off, as well as a backpack with narcotics.

After the first action, a man passed in front of the Environmental Military Police Base and fired several shots, which hit a vehicle and the installation's wall.

According to the PM, the suspect tried to flee towards the community and was located by a team from the 21st BPM/I, which provided support to environmental policing. The man tried to shoot at the officers and was shot during the police intervention. He was rescued alive by Samu and taken to medical care, but there is no information about his health status.

With the suspect, the police seized a Glock G17 pistol, caliber 9 mm, which also had the number shaved off. The PM reported that he had a criminal record for drug trafficking and other offenses covered by the Drug Law.

According to the Military Police, the locations of the two incidents were preserved for forensic examination and presented to the Civil Police. The corporation also launched Military Police Inquiries (IPMs) to investigate the circumstances of the interventions.

In a statement, the PM stated that the region had barricades and graffiti alluding to the First Command of the Capital (PCC), in addition to structures used to hinder police action.

On August 14, armed men fired at the base of the 1st Company of the 3rd Environmental Military Police Battalion (3rd BPAmb). The attack took place hours after a 19-year-old suspect died during an exchange of gunfire with military police officers in the Santa Rosa neighborhood.

According to the PM, the attack happened when teams that had participated in the previous incident were at the Guarujá Headquarters Police Station to register the case. There were police officers on the base at the time of the shooting, but no one was injured.
