Yaşar Kayhan, the captain of the sunken Tuğberk İmamoğlu ship, was sent off on his last voyage.

While Kayhan's family burst into tears during their last journey, the search for the families of the remaining 9 missing crew members continues. Kayhan's daughter Özlem Günver's words after the funeral, "We always have one foot in Silivri until we find them all one by one," revealed the extent of the pain experienced.

The body of Yaşar Kayhan, the first captain of the dry cargo ship "Tuğberk İmamoğlu", which sank after colliding with the commercial ship "Alsu" in the Marmara Sea, was buried in the İskenderun district of Hatay, his hometown.

The body of 68-year-old Kayhan, who lost his life in the accident that occurred off the coast of Silivri on September 2, was taken from the sea on September 14 and taken to Karaağaç Asri Cemetery in İskenderun district. Kayhan's family, relatives and citizens attended the funeral prayer held here. After the prayer, Kayhan's body was buried.

"WE WILL NOW HAVE ONE FOOT IN SİLİVRİ UNTIL WE FIND THEM ALL ONE BY ONE"

Kayhan's daughter, Özlem Günver, told reporters after the funeral that the pain they experienced was indescribable. Stating that they felt bitter joy because it was his father's grave, Günver said: "We have 9 grieving families behind us. We had to leave them behind and come to our country. We know that their hearts are with us. We talked many times yesterday, they wanted to attend our funeral. We never leave them, we are with them until the end. I am sure that my father's return has brought great hope for them. It has been a great joy for us to be able to put him in his place. We have one foot in Silivri from now on until we find them all one by one."

Kayhan's son-in-law, Özgür Günver, emphasized that the state has always been with them since the beginning of the process. Stating that they were grateful for being able to find his father-in-law, Günver said, "Because there is a grave place, where we can pray and believe that he is there..." Günver noted that they will always be with the families of other victims.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In the accident that occurred approximately 18 miles offshore, the commercial ship named "Alsu", going from Kocaeli to Aliağa, and the ship named "Tuğberk İmamoğlu", sailing from İskenderun Port to Karadeniz Ereğli, collided, and after the accident, "Tuğberk İmamoğlu" sank.

On the 4th day of the accident, the location of the wreck was determined with the support of the advanced sonar systems and remote-controlled underwater vehicle (ROV) of the rescue ship TCG Akın belonging to the Naval Forces Command, and diving and scanning activities were intensified in this area.

During the search and rescue efforts carried out to reach the missing crew of 10 people on the ship "Tuğberk İmamoğlu", which sank after colliding with the ship named "Alsu" off the coast of Silivri, it was determined that the body found on September 14 belonged to Yaşar Kayhan, the first captain of the sinking ship.
