55-year-old Hubert Aiwanger, Deputy Prime Minister of Bavaria and Chairman of the Free Voters (Freie Wähler) Party, was found dead in the Neuer Fritz Hotel in Berlin. No official statement has yet been made regarding the cause of Aiwanger's death.

According to AA news, it was stated that Aiwanger was expected to attend the opening of his party's capital representative office in Berlin, but he did not attend the event because he was not feeling well and stayed at the hotel.

Aiwanger, who was elected as the Bavarian state chairman of the Free Voters Party in 2006, also assumed the federal chairmanship of the party in 2010.

Aiwanger, who entered the Bavarian State Assembly for the first time in 2008, was appointed as Bavarian Minister of Economy, State Development and Energy after the state elections in 2018 and served as deputy prime minister of the state.

Known for his conservative political line, Aiwanger stood out with his critical attitude towards the decisions of the European Union (EU).
