Ionosphere-M satellites created a preliminary map of ozone in the Earth's atmosphere

Russian spacecraft (SC) “Ionosphere-M” No. 3 and 4 using the “Ozonometer-TM” instruments made it possible to create a preliminary map of ozone distribution in the Earth’s atmosphere. The state corporation Roscosmos reports this.

“The map clearly shows the global feature of ozone distribution: in tropical latitudes its total content is lower than in middle and high latitudes, including over a significant part of Russia,” the publication says.

It notes that “ozone levels are directly related to the amount of ultraviolet radiation reaching the Earth’s surface.”

In July 2025, the state corporation reported that two Ionosphere-M satellites, which were launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome, were placed into a given orbit and separated from the Fregat upper stage.

The Ionosphere-M satellites are part of the Ionosonde complex, which will receive a total of four satellites.
