In Russia, a hybrid of a polar and brown bear was discovered on the island of Kunashir

A new bear hybrid has appeared in Russia; it was spotted on Kunashir Island. Honored Ecologist of the Russian Federation, Academician of the Russian Academy of Economics Anatoly Kudaktin told Izvestia about this.

The species appeared as a result of crossing a polar and a brown bear. Despite the fact that these species differ in sexual behavior and nutritional spectrum, there are no large intraspecific differences between them, the expert noted.

Moreover, according to him, visits of polar bears to the habitats of brown bears remain quite rare, but due to warming, such cases will occur more often and within half a century hybrids may become widespread.

Earlier, the press service of the Russian Science Foundation (RSF) reported the discovery by Russian researchers of a new species of fish. Two previously unknown species of goby fish, which received the names Caspian puffy goby and Scythian tsutsik goby, were discovered in the Volga and the Caspian Sea. Leading researcher at the Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences Boris Levin admitted that the discovery was made quite unexpectedly - during a massive genetic analysis of Caspian fish.
