The XI All-Russian Youth Scientific Forum “The Science of the Future is the Science of the Young” opened in Nizhny Novgorod

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, September 23 – RIA Novosti. The XI All-Russian Youth Scientific Forum “The Science of the Future is the Science of the Young” opened today at the Nizhny Novgorod State University named after. N.I. Lobachevsky. As a RIA Novosti correspondent reports, leading Russian and foreign scientists, heads of world scientific schools, government and business representatives, young researchers and technology entrepreneurs gathered on one site.

“All of you are united by the desire to create something new, to look for answers to complex questions, to turn ideas into real products,” noted the head of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Valery Falkov, in his welcoming speech.

At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that a feature of the forum is the participation of scientists implementing their research within the framework of the mega-grant program of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

“Using their own examples, they talk about the opportunities for professional development in Russia,” he added.

Assistant to the President of Russia Andrei Fursenko said that over the past 10 years, over 7 thousand people took part in the forum. In his opinion, this “indicates the high interest in the scientific agenda on the part of young people, the demand and responsibility of the scientific profession in the modern world.”

As Ekaterina Solntseva, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, noted in her speech, the region continues the established scientific and engineering traditions in the field of photonics, nuclear physics, mechanical engineering, medicine, and cybernetics. According to her, there are seven technology parks, three special economic zones, and a world-class campus is being built here.

“We have more than 42 thousand people in the Nizhny Novgorod region employed in the field of science and technology, approximately 19 thousand directly in science,” she noted.

Rector of UNN N.I. Lobachevsky Oleg Trofimov, in turn, added that the university has 11 laboratories created as part of the megagrant program.

“Young people continue research, new results are emerging that help our country move forward,” the rector noted, drawing special attention to the fact that about 65 percent of the university’s research staff are people under 39 years of age.

Today, the forum is hosting a plenary session “Designing the Future: Improving the Quality of Modern Forecasts”, dedicated to how forecasting is changing in conditions of high uncertainty and geopolitical competition.

Over the four days of the forum, participants will discuss the country’s key scientific and technological challenges - from quantum technologies to artificial intelligence, climate change, new materials and increasing active life expectancy.
