Russian tourists need to make sure they have insurance and familiarize themselves with its conditions before traveling to Turkey.

Hospitalization without insurance in Turkey can cost a Russian tourist approximately 1–3.5 thousand dollars per day.

Tourists should familiarize themselves with the exclusions and limits of the policy in advance, and also keep their documents and assistance service contacts for the duration of the trip.

When planning a trip to Turkey, Russian tourists need to make sure that insurance is actually taken out, and also carefully read the insurance conditions in order to avoid unplanned expenses of thousands, or even tens of thousands of dollars, travel agent in Ankara Aishenur Oztekin told RIA Novosti.

“Tourists need to ask travel agents for information about the insurance policy even when purchasing a trip. It is important to know not only the name of the insurance company, but also the amount of insurance coverage, the list of medical services and the procedure for seeking help,” Oztekin said.

According to her, hospitalization without insurance in Turkey can cost a Russian tourist approximately 1-3.5 thousand dollars per day, and in the event of a serious illness, surgery or the need for medical evacuation, costs can reach tens of thousands of dollars.

“If a tourist does not have valid insurance, even hospitalization for several days can result in a bill of several thousand dollars. In case of surgery, serious injury or the need for transportation, costs can rise to tens of thousands of dollars. Therefore, Russians need to make sure before the trip that the insurance is actually issued, obtain supporting documents and carefully check what cases it covers,” Oztekin said.

RIA Novosti's interlocutor also warned that tourists should carefully check their documents, since the lack of a valid policy or insufficient coverage may lead to the fact that they will have to pay a significant part of the costs themselves.

At the same time, the cost of medical care for foreigners depends on the type of treatment, length of stay in the hospital and the complexity of the medical case. According to insurance market estimates, treatment for uninsured foreigners in Turkey can cost about $1,000 to $3,500 per day, while going to the emergency room can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars.

The travel agent emphasized that having insurance does not automatically mean covering any expenses. Tourists need to familiarize themselves with the exclusions and limits of the policy in advance, as well as keep its documents and assistance service contacts for the duration of the trip.
