Details of the ship accident revealed in the expert report

The expert report also included the maneuvers of the two ships before the accident.

Shortly before the accident, at around 03.08, the Tuğberk İmamoğlu ship was not sending AIS data. This device is known as an automatic identification system and reports the ship's route to surrounding ships. Since the İmamoğlu ship did not send this data, it became invisible and unrecognizable to surrounding ships.

5 minutes before the accident, that is, between 03.08 and 03.09, 3rd Captain Evciman on the Alsu ship contacted the Tuğberk İmamoğlu ship. Tuğberk İmamoğlu asked Alsou to "escape to the pier", that is, to steer to the left.

Upon this request, Alsou began to turn his route towards his left.

While Alsou was changing his route, Tuğberk İmamoğlu disappeared from the ECDIS system. This system, known as the Electronic Map Display and Information System, is used instead of maps.

Tuğberk İmamoğlu suddenly reappeared in this system and, according to the report, started to turn to the starboard, that is, to his right, contrary to the meeting they had with Alsu.

Meanwhile, Tuğbek İmamoğlu ship reduced its speed to 5;8 knots, while Alsou continued on its way a little faster at 7 knots.

According to the expert report, not Alsu, but the other ship, Tuğberk İmamoğlu, hit Alsu in the starboard bow and shoulder.

The expert committee noted in its report that the reason why the ship sank after this drift should be examined separately and the loading status should be examined.
