Businessman Iliyan Filipov was killed in an armed attack in Bulgaria

Businessman Iliyan Filipov was killed in an armed attack in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. It was reported that the incident occurred at a property belonging to Filipov.

According to the initial information provided by the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), Filipov was shot in the head and died at the scene. The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that a large-scale investigation was launched into the murder.

After the attack, police measures were increased at the main entrance and exit points of Plovdiv. While the area around the scene was cordoned off, transportation was restricted on some streets.

Plovdiv Regional Prosecutor Vanya Hristeva said in a brief statement about the investigation: "We are actively working on all possible possibilities."

Filipov was the founder and director of PIMK, one of Bulgaria's leading transportation and logistics companies. The company's activities extended to different sectors besides transportation.

Filipov was also the chairman and majority shareholder of Botev Plovdiv, which competes in Bulgaria's top football league. His name was also associated with the reconstruction of the club's Hristo Botev Stadium.

No official statement has been made so far about the cause and perpetrators of the attack. The investigation continues.
