Federal Education Minister Prien is calling for higher prioritization of the education issue

Federal Education Minister Karin Prien (CDU) has called on Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) and the entire federal government to give the issue of education a significantly higher priority.

“It is crucial that we make education the top issue in Germany overall, at all government levels. And that everyone also feels responsible for giving our children and young people fair starting and future opportunities,” said Prien in the “Berlin Playbook” podcast of WELT’s partner publication “Politico”.

The minister emphasized that she was not the only one in the cabinet to support the issue: "I'm not alone, but I need more support and the Chancellor promised this last week."

"We will develop the program over the next few weeks and months and then present it by the end of the year. What is certain is that it is aimed at all levels of government, that it will also focus very closely on children between 0 and 3 or 0 and 6, and that we will also work with public campaigns," said the minister.
