Bundesliga: Freiburg wins 5-0 against Gladbach, Dortmund stays second

SC Freiburg – Borussia Mönchengladbach 5:0 (2:0)

SC Freiburg clearly won against Borussia Mönchengladbach on the third matchday of the Bundesliga. After a corner, Yannik Engelhardt (23rd) took advantage of a mistake by the Gladbach goalkeeper and headed to make it 1-0 for Freiburg. In the 29th minute, striker Igor Matanović extended Freiburg's lead with a second goal. After Gladbach's captain Tim Kleindienst was sent off in the 52nd minute, Matanović (77th) scored again for SC Freiburg. Engelhardt (79th) and Maximilian Eggestein (86th) scored the final 5-0 for Freiburg.

“The first 15 or 20 minutes were good, but with a goal we collapse again,” said Gladbach player Kevin Stöger after the game on Sky. "We come here, play a bit well, but that's not enough in the Bundesliga." The Freiburg team take the lead in the table with their third win of the season.

1. FC Cologne – SV Werder Bremen 1:1 (1:0)

1. FC Köln and Werder Bremen played a draw. In the 8th minute, Cologne was awarded a hand penalty, but the Bremen goalkeeper parried Thijs Dallinga's shot. Three minutes later, a goal from Linton Maina (11th) gave the hosts the lead. Only in the second half was Niclas Füllkrug (70th) able to equalize for Werder Bremen.

Cologne and Bremen are in the middle of the table with four points each. Both teams have won one game so far.

Borussia Dortmund – SC Paderborn 3:0 (1:0)

BVB won 3-0 (1-0) against SC Paderborn. In the 5th minute, Fábio Silva gave Dortmund the lead. The game then remained goalless for a long time until Felix Nmecha (80th, 89th) scored twice for Dortmund.

Dortmund is second in the table with nine points. SC Paderborn slipped to 15th place.

1. FSV Mainz 05 – Eintracht Frankfurt 1:3 (0:2)

Eintracht won 3:1 (2:0) against Mainz 05. Can Uzun (9th) scored the first goal for Frankfurt. In the 43rd minute, Nadiem Amiri failed to score a penalty for Mainz against new Eintracht goalkeeper Noah Atubolu. Shortly before halftime, former Mainz player Jonathan Burkardt (45.+1) extended Frankfurt's lead. Uzun scored again in the 60th minute. Even a late goal from Phillip Tietz (89') couldn't prevent Mainz from suffering its first defeat of the season.

Eintracht celebrates their first win of the season. "I'm overjoyed to have scored my first brace in the Bundesliga," said Frankfurt double goalscorer Uzun after the game.

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim – VfB Stuttgart 2:1 (1:0)

Hoffenheim beat VfB Stuttgart at home 2-1 (1-0). Adam Hložek scored for Kraichgauer in the 13th minute. It was only in the second half that VfB Stuttgart managed to equalize through Maximilian Mittelstädt (48th). But then Hložek scored again in the 67th minute.

It is the second defeat of the season for Stuttgart and the first win for Hoffenheim.

FC Augsburg – Bayer 04 Leverkusen 2:2 (0:1)

FC Augsburg and Bayer Leverkusen separated in a draw. In the 18th minute, Leverkusen took the lead with a goal from Christian Kofane (18th). The Werkself remained in the lead until half-time, but then Michael Gregoritsch (50', 55') turned the game around for Augsburg with a brace in five minutes. Shortly before the final whistle, Patrik Schick (89th) equalized with a second goal for Leverkusen.

As a result of the draw, Augsburg loses its lead in the table and is currently in third place. Leverkusen is sixth in the table.
