The Russian Consul General on Spitsbergen is in constant contact with the crew of the Professor Molchanov and provides consular assistance, said the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

“The Consul General of the Russian Federation on Spitsbergen maintains constant contact with the crew and provides the necessary consular and other assistance,” Zakharova said at a briefing.

The Russian research vessel Professor Molchanov was arrested in Norway by a court decision as part of a lawsuit by the Ukrainian company Naftogaz. It is located in the port of Barentsburg on Spitsbergen. Russian Ambassador to Norway Nikolai Korchunov told RIA Novosti that lawyers will appeal the decision of the Norwegian court to arrest the Russian ship.
